IIT Chicago-Kent to receive Early Adopter Award from Illinois Legal Aid Online

IIT Chicago-Kent will be recognized with Illinois Legal Aid Online's (ILAO) Early Adopter Award at their 2nd Annual Fundraising Gala on Thursday, May 3, 2012. The event will be held at Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel at 5:30 p.m. To buy tickets, please click here.

Other recipients of the Early Adopter Award will include The Chicago Bar Foundation and the Lawyers Trust Fund of Illinois, who, along with IIT Chicago-Kent, provided the initial funding for Illinois Legal Aid Online and are being honored for their innovation and leadership as founders of the organization.

Illinois Legal Aid Online (ILAO) was created in March 2001 as the Illinois Technology Center for Law & the Public Interest. The "Tech Center" was created by twelve partner organizations as a unique and unprecedented statewide collaboration of Illinois legal services providers, funding entities, the private bar and law schools.

ILAO was housed at Chicago-Kent College of Law for its first four years, until March 2005, when ILAO was incorporated as an independent nonprofit. In March 2006, ILAO won the first Technology Leadership Award presented by Accenture and Lumity for their website, www.IllinoisLegalAid.org. This website has been recognized as one of the nation’s foremost Internet-based resources for delivering legal information to the public.

In 2011, ILAO was the first recipient of IIT Chicago-Kent's Public Interest Partner Award at the annual Public Interest Awards Night. The Public Interest Partner Award recognizes organizations that make outstanding contributions to public interest law and provide opportunities for Chicago-Kent students to gain meaningful experience in public interest practice.
